Music

Music at St. Paul is developed around goals and objectives that allow the child:

  • To glorify God through music
  • To actively make music
  • To foster critical thinking skills in creativity and listening in music

Music instruction includes opportunities in singing, rhythm, movement, and instruments. Students share in collaborative games and group work to practice music skills. This active music learning involves the students in the process of imitation, experimentation, and personal expression. All students share in performances throughout the year including Christmas services, Grandparents’ Day, and spring musical.

6th-8th grade students may audition for the extracurricular musical drama cast for the St. Paul Spring Musical. Recent productions include: Willy Wonka, Seussical, and The Wizard of Oz, and Mary Poppins.

Students may elect to participate in our vocal choir beginning in third grade. Joyful Singers includes students in 3rd-5th grade and Middle School Choir includes 6th-8th grade singers. Handbell choir is offered beginning in middle school with sixth grade learning the basics of ringing. The advanced handbell group combines 7th and 8th grade in a group named “Falcon Ringers.” Students involved in these music performance opportunities are involved in additional concerts at St. Paul and in our Boca Raton community. St. Paul students have shared their music at the Lynn Cancer Institute, Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Boca Center Christmas Tree Lighting, St. Paul Lutheran Church worship, and service projects. The Middle School Choir and Falcon Ringers also compete in the Florida-Georgia Lutheran Schools Music Festival every year to be rated by judges and receive constructive comments to strengthen their musicianship and performance technique.

Band

The Band Program is an opportunity for students in Grades 5-8 to discover and develop their God given gifts in instrumental music. The Program consists of two bands. The Beginning Band is designed for students in Grades 5 – 8 who are new to instrumental music. This band is an introduction for learning how to read music as well as play an instrument. The Concert Band is an advanced group of students in Grades 6 – 8 with instrumental experience. Students participating in band have several performance opportunities through the school year which include: Pep Rallies, Christmas and Spring Concerts, Chapels, etc. Concert Band students also participate in an MPA, A music performance assessment, where they have the opportunity to play with an accompanist and get great feedback from wonderful adjudicators. These all work together to provide opportunities for individual and group growth, means of celebrating achievement and a way to honor The Lord.
